Versace Eros vs Rabanne Invictus

For anyone choosing between two popular men's eau de toilettes, for themselves or as a Christmas gift, and wanting a clear note-by-note comparison.

Versace Eros and Rabanne Invictus are two widely known men's eau de toilettes, and they sit in almost the same price band: £74 to £96 depending on size for Eros and £69 to £94 depending on size for Invictus. Their published notes point in quite different directions, so this report compares how they are built.

Prices below are typical UK retail prices we checked in October 2026, taken from the lowest listed price for each perfume. They may change, so check the retailer for today's price before buying.

What we looked at

We compared the published note pyramids of both eau de toilettes, noted overlaps and differences, and set them against the typical UK price ranges and sizes we recorded at retailers in October 2026. We did not wear-test them, run a blind comparison or survey users, so the verdict is based on what the notes indicate.

Finding: Eros is the sweeter, warmer of the two

Its pyramid moves from mint, green apple and lemon to tonka bean, ambroxan and geranium, then Madagascar vanilla, two cedars, vetiver and oakmoss. The tonka and vanilla point to a sweet finish.

Finding: Invictus is fresher and more aquatic

It opens with grapefruit, sea notes and mandarin, adds bay leaf and jasmine, and ends on ambergris, guaiac wood, oakmoss and patchouli. No vanilla or tonka is listed, so the finish is less sweet.

Finding: they share only one listed note

Oakmoss is the only note in both published pyramids. Their listed seasons also differ: spring, autumn and winter for Eros, spring and summer for Invictus.

The perfumes in detail

Versace Eros Eau de Toilette

Notes: top Mint, Green Apple, Lemon; heart Tonka Bean, Ambroxan, Geranium; base Madagascar Vanilla, Virginia Cedar, Atlas Cedar, Vetiver, Oakmoss.

Eros pairs a bright mint and green apple opening with a sweet heart of tonka bean and ambroxan, and a base of vanilla, cedar and vetiver. It suits evenings and cooler months. Downside: the sweetness is a large part of its character, so someone who prefers crisp, dry scents may find it too much. Typically £74 to £96 depending on size.

Rabanne Invictus Eau de Toilette

Notes: top Grapefruit, Sea Notes, Mandarin; heart Bay Leaf, Jasmine; base Ambergris, Guaiac Wood, Oakmoss, Patchouli.

Invictus is built on grapefruit and sea notes with bay leaf and jasmine, over ambergris, guaiac wood and patchouli. It reads fresh and suits warmer days. Downside: its listed seasons are spring and summer, so as a winter gift it is better as a daytime scent than an evening one. Typically £69 to £94 depending on size.

The verdict

Choose Eros if the recipient likes sweet, warm scents or wants something for evenings and colder weather. Choose Invictus if they prefer fresh, citrus and aquatic scents for daytime and warmer months.

On price there is little between them; the typical ranges overlap, so choose on style rather than cost.

How to choose

  1. Our catalogue lists Eros from 30 ml and Invictus from 50 ml, so compare the price per millilitre, not only the headline price.
  2. Both lines also come in other versions with different notes; check the full name and concentration before buying.
  3. If he already wears one of them, the other adds a different style rather than repeating it.
